Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal

This past 2 years has been like no other year for our beloved city, it has been full of fear and things have happened that no one would have ever expected. However, no matter what the COVID-19 pandemic throws at us people still celebrate but in different ways not having grand celebrations. For many of us, this time of year is a time for finding joy in the planning and celebrating of various festivals and celebrations that bring families and friends together. We have missed celebrating the Vigan Town Fiesta two years in a row now. Not having to visit the Fiesta Carnival with stalls selling cheap local products. This were the times when people go out and have fun. The much awaited street dancing and colorful parade at night turned into just another ordinary days now with pandemic still uncontrollable.

Formal parts of religious festivals may change with Places of Worship operating to different rules. Informal gatherings and family traditions that accompany times of celebration will be affected. And it is important that we hold onto the meaning of these celebrations all the more if we cannot celebrate them in the way we might have in the past. But, with some creative thinking and some technological solutions, you can ensure those special days are still marked in style.

Coping with the disappointment that you may not be able to mark an occasion in the usual way, particularly events which have special meaning, can be challenging. Accepting the reality of our situation without holding on to the hope that maybe things will return to ‘normal’ in time, can help. Try and enjoy the festivities as much as you can even without going to crowds. Remember to think of your health and your family’s health first before even thinking of going out to celebrate.  While it’s natural to want to be with your loved ones in person, ensuring they are as protected as possible from coronavirus should still be our first priority.
