Kannawidan Festival


                Kannawidan is an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province’ rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province. There is a need to preserve our rich heritage and unique culture. With this in mind, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur conceive a festival that highlights these culture and tradition and attract local and foreign tourists as well.

                The festival is very significant to every resident as they are celebrating the foundation of Ilocos Sur as a province. Ilocos Sur especially Vigan is branded as the heart of Ilocandia by the Philippine Historical Committee. Several activities are performed during the festival. The display of talent as well as their indigenous costumes. There is a fair trade when the different towns gets to showcase what is best in their town.


                Kannawidan is a variant of the Ilocano word “tawid” meaning heritage or inheritance. The generations of today are lucky to have still witnessed how rich our culture and because of this, the future generation will also get to know and enjoy our traditions and cultures.
